Outside the Convention

Short documentaries and interviews from political conventions and protests

Outside the Convention is a series of short documentaries and interviews. These short videos were filmed during the protests outside the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions. Additional footage was captured at various protests.

The purpose of this series was to learn what the public thinks about the political climate and candidates, and share it with others. With so many pundits on TV and memes flooding the internet it can be hard to know what the normal citizen thinks.

I genuinely want to learn and try to understand the views of others. My tactics during filming this project was simply to speak to people, and let them speak. I was not interested in challenging their opinions or correcting any inaccuracies in their words.

My aim is to create a document of a specific time, while trying to remain as objective as possible. The videos are edited for context and clarity, but I have not changed the context or intention of the speakers.
